Chernobyl Visit 2017

Chernobyl Visit 2017

July 2017 marked the 5th consecutive (yearly) visit from the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline at McCarthys, a now annual event on the McCarthy calendar.

This year was no exception to the rules set; warm weather and a fantastic turnout from local businesses, many of whom are from within the Broadland Business Park, helped to ensure the group of eighteen children were entertained (and fed!) all day. Thanks go to Makro

Starting with a tour around McCarthy HQ, the children were able to see and sample both exotic fruits and local produce, whilst learning all manner of trade secrets. Under the watchful eye of our logistics manager (come head chef) Calum McCue, the group were then treated to a barbeque feast before the afternoon entertainment. Thanks are due to Makro for providing the food, and to the Broadland District Council for lending us the barbeque.

The entertainment then began with tractor unit rides courtesy of Norfolk Trucks, Fire Engine demonstrations provided by Norfolk Fire Service, and a few arrests from the Norfolk Constabulary. It was clear to see the enjoyment all round, with several members of the McCarthy workforce joining in to roll back the years…!

Before the children left, ‘goodie bags’ were gifted to the children, filled to the brim with hand puppets, board games, stationery and colouring books. A special thank you goes to NatWest, Chiquita and Bertram Books for these fantastic gifts.

Again, thank you to everyone who helped to make the day possible, and here’s to year six.
