Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline
This year was the fourth consecutive year that we have had the pleasure of hosting the Chernobyl visit, on behalf of the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line Charity. Many thanks are due, with a great turnout from several local businesses and authorities alike providing food and gifts for the children, as well as a fun day out for all involved. Start-rite provided the children with shoes prior to them joining us for a BBQ, consisting of a range of food donated by Makro wholesalers. They also had goodie-bags full of treats from the Police service, as well as fruit and presents put together by us, with credit due to suppliers Chiquita.
We started the afternoon off with a tour of the premises, where the children got to see produce from all over the world. Next was a quick refuelling; a BBQ complimented by our own freshly prepared salad, before the main attraction. The children loved having rides and sitting inside the vehicles, as well as sounding the sirens and playing with the equipment. They even enjoyed being put in the back of a police van!
Even though the heavens opened, we embraced it and got even more soaked with the help of Sprowston Fire & Rescue crew and the hose from one of their engines. We were also joined by one of our local Community Police officers from the Broadland area, complete with a police van. Brands of Beccles completed the line-up, bringing a fire engine and a lorry unit, giving rides around the site, much to the amusement of the children.
A huge thanks to everyone who made the day possible and we look forward to next year!
